Flavor and texture
Also known as Patagonian red shrimp, it’s known for its vibrant red shell and firm texture. Sweeter and more savory than common shrimp species, Argentine red shrimp features a higher fat content that enhances flavor.
Culinary appeal
Chefs choose Argentine red shrimp for both simple and high-end applications.Versatile Argentine red shrimp holds up well in grilling, broiling, and stir-frying. The product cooks in just a few minutes, often being grilled or sautéed. It’s ideal for skewers, pasta dishes, rice dishes, seafood platters, stir-fries, and salad toppers. Like other shrimp species, it adapts to a range of globally-inspired palates, including Mediterranean, French, Spanish, Cajun, South American, and Asian.
Natural sweetness makes this shrimp adaptable to simple preparations like garlic butter or a lemon herb sauce. White wine is also an excellent complement. Argentine red shrimp are a vibrant, ruby-red color even when raw. When cooked, the red hue intensifies, and the meat turns opaque white.
A nutrient powerhouse
With virtually no saturated fat, Argentine red shrimp are an excellent source of lean protein as well as astaxanthin, a potent antioxidant that may play an important role in health. Astaxanthin gives shrimp its natural reddish color.
Like other shrimp, this species provides iron, selenium, and zinc, too. Due to higher fat content, levels of omega-3 fatty acids are even higher in this species than in other common shrimp species. (Learn about shrimp nutrition in our blog.)
